Chilliwack Chiefs forwards Nico Grabas and Reese Shaw and Salmon Arm Silverbacks goaltender Daniel Dirracolo have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Nico Grabas (F) – Chilliwack Chiefs
Named the 1st Star of the Month of January yesterday, Grabas is also the 1st Star of the Week after he amassed one goal, eight assists and nine points in two games last week to lead the league in scoring.
On Tuesday night, the Canisius University commit had his best performance in his four-year BCHL career, putting up seven points in his team’s 12-3 road win over the Langley Rivermen. Grabas was in on four of the Chiefs first five goals and eventually finished the night with one marker and six helpers. He followed that up with a two-assist outing on Friday in an 8-4 victory over the Powell River Kings.
Grabas now has points in 11 of his last 13 games, including three straight where he has a combined 13 points. He is currently the league’s leading scorer with 55 points in 32 games. He also sits second with 23 goals and fourth with 32 assists.
2nd Star – Reese Shaw (F) – Chilliwack Chiefs
Shaw finished his week with a league-best four goals to go along with four assists and eight points over three contests.
After collecting a goal and two assists in Chilliwack’s Tuesday night win over the Langley Rivermen, the 20-year-old registered his first hat trick in the BCHL on Friday in the Chiefs triumph over the Powell River Kings. His third goal stood up as the game winner and he was named first star. He wrapped up a productive week with two assists on Saturday in a 5-0 victory in a rematch against Powell River.
Shaw is tied for fourth in league scoring with 46 points in 27 games, while his 30 assists rank sixth in the BCHL.
Daniel Dirracolo (G) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks
Dirracolo won both of his starts last week, stopping 58 of the 60 shots he faced to finish with a .967 save percentage, a 1.00 goals-against average and one shutout.
The 2005-born netminder made 22 saves on 24 shots on Friday, helping his team to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters. A night later, Dirracolo stopped all 36 shots he faced, including 18 in the third period alone, to earn his second shutout of the season against the Okotoks Oilers. He was named first star in the 3-0 win.
On the season, the Woodbridge, Ont. product owns a .908 save percentage, tied for fifth in the BCHL, and a 2.66 goals-against average, which ranks sixth in the league.
